Millenium Villages Project, Ethiopia (2005)

Millennium Village Project (MVP) in Tigray Regional State, Hawzen District

[This content is currently created, please check back the next day]

It turned out to be very difficult to find more detailed information related to the Millenium Villages Project and the implementation of clay pot irrigation systems. The most comprehensive overview I could find so far is a paper from Zenebe Woldu, Clay Pot Pitcher Irrigation: A Sustainable and Socially Inclusive Option for Homestead Fruit Production under Dryland Environments in Ethiopia (A Partial Review). You can read an outline of it on our websites:

Review: Clay Pot Pitcher Irrigation: A Sustainable and Socially Inclusive Option for Homestead Fruit Production under Dryland Environments in Ethiopia (A Partial Review) (Woldu, 2015)

Even though this large scale project was a demonstration project conducted by the Earth Institute at Columbia University, the United Nations Development Programme, and Millennium Promise, neither the Earth Institute nor the UNDP have answered any emails so far concerning questions related to the MVP.

The official website http://www.millenniumvillages.org/ (or https://) is no longer available.

If you have any details about the implemented clay pot irrigation systems please share your knowledge so we can update the project informations in this knowledge hub. You can send us an email to: contact@amatek.institute
